You have to know how to approach your boss first. If he/she is a company person you might want to use key words like "productive", "good for the company", ect.... They aren't going to listen if you use words like "I", "me", "mine". You want to make it look like your looking out for the best interest of the company.
If your boss is a "my way " type, you might want to make it look like it is his/her idea. You can start the conversation in a "leading way" and he/she will pick up on your idea.
You could also talk to your co-workers about the idea and maybe they could give you some hints on talking to "the boss" or maybe your co-workers could even help you with if they thought it was good and maybe even add to it.
Its all in how you approach "the boss" and what kind of wording you use. Just remember to include why you think it would be good and if its some thing to do with saving the company money, make sure you let the boss know that as well. You may even want to figure out about how much it could save the company. That is usually a key way to get them to even try your idea.
