Predicting Economic Trends with Affiliate Data

Becky Doles

Resume Companion is an industry leading online resume builder service with over 650,000 registered users and over 8 million resumes created to date. One of the most difficult aspects of managing a small business is the ability to drive growth. The HasOffers affiliate tracking software provides a platform upon which Resume Companion is able to reach out to other companies who swim in the same career services market pool.

Within this pool, some affiliates naturally perform better than others. By closely analyzing incoming traffic and conversion rates Resume Companion is able to draw a few economic correlations. By measuring growth rates and total percentages of click through conversion rates, it is possible to roughly measure those industries that are expanding and those that are stagnating in terms of new hiring.

Resume Companion receives large amounts of conversions from resume sample sites. Upon further examination of the resumes within those sites, the highest conversion rates are resumes for nursing and accounting careers, which convert at a rate 2-3x higher than other occupations. Nursing and accounting resume conversions account for roughly 32% of conversions through the Resume Companion affiliate channel, making them our largest occupation-specific market. The next highest in total volume after nursing and accounting resumes are administrative resumes. Conversion rates for administrative resumes have remained static in recent years.

The correlations that can be drawn from this are numerous. First, in career fields with a rapid increase in applicants, it is often a result of driving demand. Nurse resume sample conversions indicate there are a lot of nurses out there looking to create a resume, as are accountants. Sure enough, nursing and accounting are forecast to grow steadily in the years to come. With this knowledge in hand Resume Companion is better equipped to appeal to these industries through social outreach campaigns such as blogging and social media sites as well as more precisely targeted advertising.
